Lake Hardy Hike and Fire

Scott took the oldest three on an overnight hike July 3rd, with some families in our ward.  They had a group of about 30-35 people who went.
Here they are the morning of the hike, ready for their adventure.

Finally got a smile from Michael.

All was fine and dandy on the trail up to their destination. Scott sent me the photo above.  And then later sent the photo below.   One minute he was looking at the gorgeous view and the next saw a fire start.

Eventually from the same view, the fire turned into this.  They never felt in danger, although everyone calling them told them to get down immediately.  The fire spread rapidly and we (those not on the hike) wondered if they would get trapped.

This was the view from our house.

After many prayers (one that resulted in the winds changing the direction of the smoke), phone calls to family and emergency officials, conversations, worry, and hard work on the kids and Scott's part, they eventually made their way back after a 14 mile roundtrip hike (that was only supposed to be 9 the first day).  They eventually met up with search and rescue and were able to be taken off the mountain in ATV's.  It was quite an adventure to say the least!
Michael being greeted enthusiastically after their long day.

We felt blessed to have them all home, safe and sound.
And the fire continued to spread and lasted about 4 days (or so).
